New Views at Leeds Playhouse

In partnership with the National Theatre, Leeds Playhouse is excited to be hosting the New Views programme this year.

If you are aged 14 - 21 you could be part of an amazing playwriting opportunity, with the chance for the winner to have their play read and rehearsed by professional actors.

New Views is the National Theatre’s playwriting programme for young people wanting to learn and develop their playwriting talents.

Wild Irish Tales for Global Rehabilitation

Global Rehabilitation is a small Leeds-based charity which trains and supports rehabilitation doctors and other medical professionals in countries in the Global South, in particular Madagascar, mainly through the transfer of skills and knowledge.

Madagascar is a huge island nation off the east coast of Africa and has very poor health systems and health infrastructure and a small number of extremely dedicated medical professionals who work hard to improve the lives of patients living with disease and disabilities in very challenging conditions.

Join Leeds People's Choir - an open invitation

Leeds People's Choir is a friendly, community, secular, non-auditioned choir. We meet Wednesday evenings at Swarthmore Education Centre, in central Leeds, at 7pm-9pm.

We sing to support causes and campaigns we believe in and to promote equality, justice, peace, and community. Our songs come from different countries and cultures, and we sing unaccompanied (acapella).

Our musical director, Jenny Goodman, is an experienced choir leader who runs very enjoyable and uplifting sessions.

Any Work That Wanted Doing - the stories of disabled mill workers

Disabled people have always been part of the textile workforce of the UK, but their contributions have often gone unrecognised. Once the industrial revolution got underway, the narrative that disabled people were unable to work and had to depend on the workhouse or on charity took hold. This idea of disabled people as being dependent and needy continues to this day. But it’s not the whole story.

There will also be some movement and dance activities.
