The Gifting
A spectacular event bringing Leeds 2023 to a close.
For the past 12 months, LEEDS 2023 has celebrated arts and culture in all our diversity as part of the Year of Culture. Transforming the city and astonishing the public with everything ranging from public installations to pop-up festivals and large-scale theatre.
But the challenge is: how do you bring a year like this to close?
The answer to that challenge is The Gifting. LEEDS 2023 is teaming up with Holbeck’s theatre company Slung Low to take over Versa Studios Leeds, an immense film studio near the station and fill it with stories, songs and mythmaking to welcome in the New Year and say farewell to 2023.
For anyone in search of something different to do during the Christmas holidays, The Gifting offers an experience unlike any other. Audience members will be guided through a space the size of 1½ football pitches where Marvel franchise movies were filmed, wearing headphones throughout to bring cast dialogue and music straight to their ears for a uniquely immersive experience. Stunning set design will be provided by Keith Khan, whose work includes the London Olympic Games and ‘The Gift’ for LEEDS 2023, whilst feminist theatre company Rash Dash will be soundtracking the show.
The Gifting promises to be an epic and magical experience – the perfect cultural activity for the Christmas holidays, and to end the year.
