Introduction to Woodwork: Hand Tools Level 2

A one day course developing the skills you have learned from our 'Introduction to Woodwork - Hand Tools 1' course, as well as expanding tool knowledge and skills.

Duration

5 hours with a 30 minute lunch break. 10am - 3pm. Tea and coffee breaks are optional. Lunch is not provided so please bring lunch with you, there are places nearby to grab some lunch if needed. Introduction to DIY - Using wall fixings How to put up a shelf and more!

This course is the beginners guide to putting things like shelves on walls. You will learn to identify different kinds of walls and learn how to use the correct fixtures on them. This will include learning about hammer drills, masonry bits, rawl plugs and plasterboard fixtures. There will also be a discussion about avoiding cables and pipes. The course will end with using a spirit level to fit a shelf.

'Don't Let's Ask For The Moon...': Nocturnes and Atkinson Grimshaw

John Atkinson Grimshaw's Moonlights from the 1880s brought the Leeds artist success and recognition, even from the crusading modernist American artist James McNeil Whistler.

This new exhibition brings together Leeds Art Gallery’s impressive collection of nocturnal pictures by the celebrated artist, including the latest acquisition Reflections on the Aire - on strike (1879) - likely to be one of the first paintings depicting the consequences of industrial action.

Leeds Industrial Museum is home to the smallest cinema in the North of England with just 26 seats- the cosy, 1920s-style Palace Picture House. 

Join us for a family favourite film every day of the school holidays, starting at 2pm.

Film screenings are included in the price of museum admission. Drop in. 

Please note, the museum is closed on Mondays.

SkillShed: Hands on Program Turning Waste Timber into Bike Sheds!

Join SkillShed: our FREE 6 week course turning waste timber into a bike shed to donate to a community organisation!

Each SkillShed will last 6 weeks, running on Tuesdays from 9.30 - 3pm. We have 10 spaces per cohort.

In each cohort participants will process timber collected by the LWR collections team, learn basic woodwork skills, have access to additional optional training such as CPC accredited micro qualifications and SEN training, whilst being part of a team constructing bike sheds.
