The Butler's Pantry
We started work on the room two years ago, uncovering hidden fireplaces, original wallpaper hidden underneath layers and layers of newer wallcoverings, and sinks which had been stored in the cellars for decades!
The room was left abandoned for many years before being turned into a technical workshop in the 1960s, but we knew it had plenty of potential to be restored to its former glory.
The Temple Newsam archives held inventories of items which told us what the room would have been used for, and how we could recreate the space to be as close to the original 1890s pantry.
We're now delighted to open a brand new space for our visitors to explore, show off the impressive collection of silverware, and develop the servants stories which are incredibly important to the House.
