Workshop

Join illustrator and printmaker Abbie Mooney for a hands-on introduction to collagraph printing, inspired by the unique heritage, architecture and decorative details of Bramley Baths.

Built in 1904, Bramley Baths is one of Leeds much-loved historic swimming pools, with distinctive Edwardian architecture and beautiful original details, including its patterned tiles. In this workshop, you’ll take inspiration from the building and its history to create your own textural printing plates.

You’ll be guided through the process of layering textures, shapes and marks onto a printing plate, experimenting with different materials to capture the character and details of Bramley Baths. You’ll then ink and hand-burnish your plates to create a series of unique prints to take home.

Collagraph is a wonderfully accessible printmaking process, using a variety of everyday and readily available materials to build up texture and create an image. It’s a great way to explore how the surfaces, patterns and architectural details of a historic building can be translated into print.

Whether you’re completely new to printmaking or have tried other processes before, this workshop offers an opportunity to explore Bramley Baths from a different perspective — looking closely at the details, textures and stories that make this heritage building special.

No previous experience is needed and all materials are provided.

We have a hot drinks machine in our café area, please feel free to bring your dinner or any snacks for during the workshop.
