Writing at the Crossroads: a Remember Oluwale Writing Workshop
Creative Workshop
Literature
Workshop

Join Remember Oluwale and Chapel FM for a free afternoon of creative writing inspired by David Oluwale's story, exploring migration, identity, belonging, memory and the cultural crossroads that shape our lives and communities.

Led by poet and artist Sai Murray, the workshop will use creative writing activities, conversation and shared ideas to explore the stories we inherit, the cultures that influence us and the experiences that connect us. Drawing on David Oluwale's life and legacy, participants will reflect on the ways migration, cultural exchange and our shared histories continue to shape Leeds today.

Whether you're an experienced writer or simply curious to try something new, this welcoming workshop offers an opportunity to explore ideas, develop your creativity and share different perspectives. No previous writing experience is needed.

Afterwards, participants are invited to continue the conversation over a meal inspired by themes of fusion and migration, bringing people together through food as well as words.

The evening continues with a separate live radio broadcast at Chapel FM, hosted by Peter Spafford and featuring writing inspired by the workshop. Participants can share their work on air or join the studio audience. Everyone is welcome to attend the broadcast, whether or not they've taken part in the workshop.

Part of David Oluwale and the City at the Crossroads, a series of events for Being Human Festival 2026.

How the afternoon and evening will work

We'll kick off with the creative writing workshop at 2pm, finishing at around 5.15pm. Afterwards, we'll share a meal inspired by fusion and migration, with time to eat, chat and continue the conversations from the workshop.

At 6.30pm, we'll go live on air with a special Chapel FM broadcast, featuring writing from the workshop. You're welcome to share your work or simply come along and listen. The broadcast finishes at 7.30pm.

You can join us for the workshop, the broadcast or both!
