Performance

A dance flashmob performance by older people, breaking down public perceptions of aging.

Choreographer Hannah Robertshaw, supported by six professional dance artists, created a new dance work exploring and exploding stereotypes of older people.

The choreography was taught by the 6 artists to 203 older adults from 10 different groups at their regular weekly dance sessions over 15 weeks.

Taking part in the project were:

Heydays at Leeds Playhouse
Asendance Dance for Parkinsons groups at Meanwood, Otley & Pudsey
Dance Studio Leeds
Yorkshire Dance’s Dance On groups at Holt Park, Moortown, Middleton, Harehills, Beeston & south Seacroft.

Group rehearsals then took place at Yorkshire Dance before two hugely well received public flashmob performances at White Rose Shopping Centre. The performances attracted an audience of around 300 people and were featured on BBC Look North, BBC Radio Leeds and in the Yorkshire Post.

Beige also went on to be performed at the Ageless Festival at Leeds Playhouse.
