For this week's Visiting Artist's Talk at the University of Leeds we welcome David McAlmont.

Dr David McAlmont is a singer/songwriter, art historian and Studio Master at the Architectural Association’s Interprofessional Studio, a Spatial Design & Performance programme. He joined the team in 2009 as a performance consultant after two successful decades as a recording artiste.

From 2012, he studied the History of Western Art and Architecture at Birkbeck College. He collaborated closely with the University of Leicester Research Centre for Museums and Galleries, creating Girl Boy Child as part of the National Trust’s 2017 Prejudice and Pride Project.

He conceived 2023’s ground-breaking Permissible Beauty composite portrait project which culminated in an exhibition at Hampton Court Palace, authoring the short film of the same title, viewed at a number of international festivals and featured at Wellcome Collection’s Cult of Beauty exhibition.

He became Doctor of Letters courtesy of Leicester University in 2024 and curated the Royal Society of Sculptors Summer Show. He is currently developing a commemorative Jacques Louis David lecture for the National Gallery London in 2025 and will release his eleventh album Twilight in the same year.

The Visiting Artist’s Talk (VAT) series hosts talks by an exciting range of arts practitioners from around the world every Monday afternoon 2–4pm during teaching weeks.

All of our talks are compulsory for our Fine Art students but are also open to anyone else who would like to join us.
