Join Leeds artist Jeannie from Cracklepots who has has a wealth of experience in teaching pottery. Jeannie will help get you started on your first steps into making ceramics, but for the more experienced you can use this sociable and fun workshop time to develop your skills further.
What to Expect
During this three week course Jeannie will guide you through the processes and tools needed to get great results.
Potters Wheel:
Throwing on a potter's wheel can be a therapeutic experience, it's fast, it's fun and it's messy. You can have as much or as little help as you want as Jeannie will be on hand to offer one to one tuition with each individual. Although a tricky technique to master, you will be able to create a handmade pot to be proud of. (During the duration of the course each individual will get 30 mins each on the potters wheel)
Sgraffito
Sgraffito means to 'scratch through' where designs, imagery and patterns can be added to dried layers of colour. In our taster you will have the opportunity to create two beautiful hand decorated Sgraffito tiles.
Hand building and sculpture
Using ancient techniques to build with clay, our introduction to Pottery Course will teach you to coil, pinch or sculpt clay to create a pot, bowl or small sculpture of your choice.
Decoration and Firing
You will be able to get truly creative and decorate each piece with coloured slip in a design of your choice. Your pieces will be taken away to be fired in a kiln. Once fired, your work will have a clear glaze applied and it will be fired again at a higher temperature to a gloss finish making them food safe and non porous (however, please be aware that ceramics of this nature are not suitable for microwave use) Your pots will then be ready to collect from NorthLight at your convenience.
Materials
All materials and firing of your pieces are included at no extra cost.
