Jazzleeds are pleased to welcome to Leeds Jazz Festival trumpeter Jay Phelps who has curated an exceptional show which will bring together the best of Miles Davis from 1958 and 1959. Canadian born Phelps has had a career spanning radio presenting for Jazz FM and Worldwide FM, as well as creating the Youtube documentary series Ear to the Ground. Jay has performed with some of the world’s top artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Shabaka Hutchings, Amy Winehouse and Wizkid. With an instantly recognisable warm and projecting trumpet tone, Phelps is a household name on the international Jazz scene with worldwide streams exceeding 700k and his DJ sets are becoming legendary. With five sold out shows at the Jazz Cafe already under their belt and a host of dates around the UK, the show features the music from ’58 Miles and Kind of Blue. To bring this to life, Jay has picked a line-up of the UK's best - Donovan Hafner, pianist Rick Simpson, bassist James Owston and drummer Jim Bashford.

"The leading UK-based trumpet player Jay Phelps is set to play music from the icon and biggest selling album of all time,  Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue" - Mike Flynn, Jazzwise Editor

“What Jay brings to the stage is an energy and a level of originality that is hard to find. Whether it’s a live show or one of his hybrid DJ sets, I know Jay will always deliver tenfold and leave the room in a better place than he found it. And that is priceless.” - Juliet Kennedy, Founder & Director, Brick Lane Jazz Festival
