The Island Orchestra brings an evening of live music to the Howard Assembly Room, celebrating the forty - year heritage of the Black Music Festival.
The concert features local and national musicians delivering a performance that combines the texturing of an orchestral string and brass sound with classic Caribbean rhythms. The repertoire blends established orchestral elements with the syncopated timing, basslines and stylistic markers of reggae, soca, calypso and contemporary Black music genres.
Presented in partnership with the Black Music Festival, the event includes a live performance starting at 7pm, followed by an after - party from 10pm to 1am. It is designed to offer an accessible and welcoming introduction to symphonic Caribbean arrangements for new audiences, while providing a nostalgic retrospective for long - time followers of the local music scene.
