Workshop

In this workshop you’ll make your own cardboard 3D shadow box, inspired by Hyde Park Picture House, an iconic part of the Hyde Park streets.

We’ll use simple materials to build depth and shape, exploring how cutting and layering can transform an image. There’s plenty of room to experiment and follow your own ideas as you go.

You’ll leave with a finished piece, along with some practical ways of working in miniature and 3D collage, simple tools to help you see images as something you can bring to life.

Info about Gee and miniatures:

Collecting stories like trinkets, Gee create small-scale dioramas that explore memory, home, place, and belonging. Often based on domestic spaces, they resemble dollhouse rooms but are left empty, inviting a curious, playful way of looking. Gee likes to think of herself as a world-builder.

Gee is drawn to places with a certain pull, spending time in them before carefully translating what she notices using found, repurposed, and low-cost materials. Cardboard plays a big role in her work: its fragility mirrors how fleeting these moments and spaces can feel.

Gee exhibited her piece No.1013 at Left Bank in 2023. The piece explored student life in Hyde Park, Leeds, so she is very excited to be leading a workshop inspired by one of the most iconic buildings in Hyde Park. The process of working in miniature can be a brilliant way to make the magic of spaces and chapters into tangible pieces of art.

Images below are prototypes of what you will be making in the workshop - we will be bringing in some fancy boxes to frame your miniatures.
