During their lifetimes, Diego Rivera was the more internationally celebrated artist. Today, Frida Kahlo is one of the most recognisable artists in the world.

In this illustrated talk, Dr Simon Marginson introduces the work of both artists—from Rivera’s monumental public murals to Kahlo’s intensely personal and uncompromising paintings.

Set against the political upheavals of twentieth-century Mexico, the talk explores two very different artistic voices and the complex relationship between them: their politics, identities, public lives and private suffering.

The evening includes time for discussion and questions. No previous knowledge of art history is needed—just curiosity.
