Fan-led media occupies a unique space in the world of football, from a handful of photocopied fanzines sold outside football grounds in the ‘70s, to the global reach of today’s multimedia platforms. Join the British Library and Leeds Libraries to explore fan-driven publishing in the present moment, including its role in the wider media landscape, what it offers audiences, why it’s important and how it has endured despite changes in the globalised game.
The event features writers and editors from significant outlets including Daniel Chapman of Leedsista and formerly The Square Ball, Mike Harrison from The City Gent, Felicia Pennant from SEASON Zine and Zoë Hitchen from Girlfans. The discussion will be chaired by Ffion Thomas, Deputy Editor of When Saturday Comes and co-editor of Along Come Norwich zine.
Part of Voice of the Fans, an exhibition co-produced by the British Library and Leeds Libraries, which explores over 60 years of fan-made media from their collections that has defined the beautiful game. At Leeds Central Library from 9 May to 10 August, with a smaller display touring to Leeds branch libraries throughout autumn/winter 2025.
