Lou’s Safari are a piano trio from Leeds, focused on playing standards and original material in an open and conversational way.
Born out of the Leeds jazz scene, and visiting the stages of Matt and Phreds, The Domino, Wakefield Jazz, and others, Joseph Frost-Tesfaye (piano), Harry Souter (double bass) and Louis Berthoud (drums) have played together in various arrangements for nearly 4 years, but in the last last year began performing together as a trio.
Drawing influence from contemporary artists like Kit Downes and Aaron Goldberg in equal measure with legendary pianists John Hicks and Thelonious Monk, the band arranges traditional standards on the spot. Original tunes are given the same treatment, resulting in expansive musical dialogue and a flowing, relaxed swing feel.
