We are delighted to exhibit various pieces of Anna Whitehouse’s truly unique and captivating work in the Gallery throughout October.

Based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Anna is a highly respected local artist who utilises scientific imagery and research to inform her sculptural work.

Bottle forms and an experimental approach to textures have been recurring themes over the last decade. She enjoys the symbolism of the bottle - a form that can hold something precious, valuable, secret, a poison, or a cure. By playfully combining this with structures and textures studied in macro and microscopic imagery, she invites us into a surreal world of hidden landscapes and mutated flora and fauna.

Ultimately, she strives to create curious objects that spark a childlike sense of wonder and appreciation of the natural world, whilst questioning our place within it.

Anna holds a first-class BA Hons in Three-Dimensional Design from Manchester School of Art. Alongside her studio practice, she works to commission, on public art projects and teaches ceramics to all ages.
