Beginning the concert with Mozart’s last piano sonata which whilst tuneful and lighthearted, demonstrates dazzling contrapuntal craft. Then moving towards the 20th century, pairing works by Janáček and Rachmaninov with folk influences: (Rachmaninov’s Variations on a Theme of Corelli, is actually based on “La Folia” (“Madness” an old Iberian folk dance tune) and the Variations toil and climax, but conclude in states of reflection. Also including 3 pieces from the newly released book ‘22 nocturnes for Chopin’ which is a collection of pieces by contemporary female composers initiated by Rose alongside EVC publications.
