Render Me Chaotic is a solo show of paintings by Leeds based artist Helen Dryden, presented by The Art Court in collaboration with Eye Room.
Helen Dryden uses painting as a way to explore, wonder and sometimes poke fun at the world we know, as well as imagining worlds we don’t yet know. Her solo exhibition, Render Me Chaotic, features paintings on canvas and wooden cutouts, embracing a bold, vibrant, and expressive style.
Influenced by pop culture, sci-fi, everyday domestic life and nature, Dryden’s wide ranging interests are reflected in her paintings. She is attracted to absurd things, in life and in her imagination. Included in this exhibition are strange, imaginary plant filled landscapes, men modelling their thick green beards, a yellow marquee where a brass band is warming up before performing, and a ‘Chemical World’ (a shelf of Cif and Maxwell House lit by fluorescent lighting), amongst other subjects.
“I paint where my mind takes me” says the artist, “It can be as far away as imagining outer space, or as near as the sofa in my own home. My subjects are connected by my interest in them, my choice to explore and imagine and observe. I am always curious.”
