Quilts and Their Makers: Textile Stories from The Quilt Collection
Discussion
Talk
Event organiser:
Sunny Bank Mills

The Quilt Collection from The Quilters’ Guild contains over 1000 items of patchwork and quilting, that charts the heritage and development of those crafts from the early 18th century to the present day. Each one tells an important and unique story that represents the people that made them and the time in which they were made.

Some enter the Collection with detailed, in-depth personal stories that really help to bring the objects to life. Others come with no personal information, but the fabrics, style and construction can be used to tell their own story about how it was made and the wider context of the time.

This talk will look at a wide range of historic pieces from the Collection, and explore the skills, variety and creativity of some of these past makers.
