Join Zoe Tongue for a zine-making workshop exploring the future of queer reproduction and queer family formation!
We’ll start the session thinking about the pressures on LGBTQIA+ people to conform to the model of the traditional nuclear family. We’ll also explore the exclusions and barriers that we face in forming families (romantic or otherwise), having (or not having) children, and parenting (whether in the conventional sense or as part of the queer community). We’ll then create our own zine manifestos setting out what we want our queer reproductive futures to look like.
About the facilitator: Zoe Tongue (she/they) is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Leeds where she teaches and researches human rights and healthcare, with a focus on abortion and reproductive rights. Last year, along with artist Herfa Martina Thompson, they ran the Reproductive Futures exhibition and art workshop at East Street Arts. Zoe is also an artist, and likes to incorporate creative practices such as zine-making into her teaching and everyday life.
