Overtime Art Club O2W Special - Drawing Heads and Faces
Craft
Workshop
Event organiser:
Sunny Bank Mills

We're staying late at the Mills this Spring to bring you the Overtime Art Club sessions! Come along for relaxed evenings of drawing, printing, illustration and more - all facilitated by local emerging artists.

You're welcome to bring your own drinks to the session, we'll provide all the materials you'll need.

This season's sessions are a series of Ones to Watch specials, getting to know some of our exhibiting emerging artists and learning new skills in a relaxed setting! We are keen to help our Ones to Watch artists develop other areas of their careers outside of Gallery walls, and find many artists and makers diversify their practice through teaching workshops.

During this workshop, we will be focusing on drawing the head, working with a life model for one pose throughout the session. You will be encouraged to learn and understand the positioning of facial features and skull structure using comparative measuring.

Throughout the session, we will look at examples of how other artists have approached drawing a head and portraiture in their work, and you will explore your own personal approach to mark making.

You will also get an opportunity to experiment with different ways of applying charcoal and pencil to reveal character and feeling.

About the artist

Ellie Andrews is an artist based in Burley, Leeds. She is also the founder of Leeds Drawing Club (2007) and Body Matters Project (2023)

Ellie studied Theatre Design at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London (Graduating 2005) and after a period working as a Set Designer, she returned to Leeds to set up Leeds Drawing Club in 2007, and Cafe 164 & the Gallery at 164, in Munro House, Leeds city centre in 2011

Since closing her business in 2023, Ellie now focuses on her own art practice, and the life drawing and portrait classes she runs and teaches from Leeds Drawing Club studio in Burley, Leeds.

Ellie advocates for drawing and creative expression as a powerful tool to support mental health. Leeds Drawing Club focuses on both creative expression for mental health as well as improving skills and learning to draw.

You can view Ellie's work within the Gallery until 27th April. Read more about Ones to Watch 2025 here.

Please note - these sessions are suitable for anyone aged 18+
