Explore the basics of letterpress and work with traditional wood type and metal type to create a series of printed posters and postcards.
You’ll have the opportunity to use our wood type collection to create text and backgrounds using our historic Albion press and galley proofing presses. You’ll also work with our metal type to set your own smaller lines of type and use our Adana presses and equipment.
The aim is to introduce you to a couple of approaches to using letterpress and enable you to think about next steps. You’ll learn about letterpress terminology as well as some history and interesting facts throughout the course!

Access
Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and accessible toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one blue badge car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street, subject to availability.
