The Yorkshire Dialect Society are inspiring and encouraging people of the West Riding to talk, read and write their native dialect in a new series of classes. “Our so expressive, wonderful Yorkshire dialect is part of our cultural heritage and we like to preserve our heritage,” says Rod Dimbleby, Chair of The Yorkshire Dialect Society, the oldest dialect society in the world.
Students will be encouraged to learn the dialect as if it were a foreign language, understanding the grammar, vocabulary and intonation. They will also be introduced to some of the leading authors of West Riding Dialect.
The course is running on Monday afternoons 2.00 - 4.00pm from May 13th until June 24th. Please note there is no class on 27th May due to the Bank Holiday. Places are limited so registration is essential. The total cost for the six two hour sessions is £30.
