There isn't always enough out there that guides South Asian females on how to access the arts and develop their creative practice.

In our first online event to kick off Summer Solstice 2024 we are demystifying the process in an interactive panel discussion, commissioned by SAA-uk, presented by Seetal Kaur of Forward Culture.

Featuring four incredible South Asian females who have made waves in the arts industry, they share their insights, experience, and top tips to show you how they have pursued creative career pathways, and how you can too!

Your Panellists:
Kaajel Patel- London based dancer and fine artist, Kaajel, is inspired by vintage female Bollywood icons, folk and Indian classical dance, cabaret, drag, burlesque and the feminine divine to make choreography, paintings and performance art. Her work combines the magic of ancient Indian practices with the sickly-sweet nostalgia of Bollywood. Kaajel's art explores themes of the sensuality and ferocity of SA women.

Rupinder Kaur- Talented creative, Rupinder Kaur, is a multidisciplinary artist. Her poetry book, Rooh, was published with Verve Poetry Press. Rupinder's poems have been published in various journals and magazines. She has been a recipient of a DYCP grant to work on dance and poetry. Her one-woman show Imperfect, Perfect Woman, was performed at Wolverhampton Literature Festival.

Almass Badat- Director, Curator and DJ, Almass Badat, harnesses her creativity to tell compassionate, colourful audio and visual stories. Almass has collaborated with numerous notable names including: Dialled In, What is this Behaviour?, Southbank Centre, Fender, Amazon Music, British Council, Tay Iwar, Elrow, BBC Asian Network, The Science Gallery, Netflix, V&A,and many more!

Pritt- South London's Pritt continues to make her mark being Eelam Tamil, which has influenced her style immensely, allowing herself to be as expressive as possible to take a pivotal stance in her art. The Denmark born artist uses her femininity to empower stereotypes of women and take an ‘Eastern meets Western' stand on her music; an un-orthodox approach on honest relatable lyrics couples with Carnatic melisma.
