Saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Jasmine Myra returns to Leeds to perform music from her third album, Where Light Settles.
Having developed her musical style in Leeds before moving to London, Myra’s work is characterized by an expansive, instrumental approach. Her compositions draw on a range of influences, from the textures of contemporary folk to the arrangements found in film soundtracks.
Recorded at The Nave studios in Leeds, her latest album features a large-scale ensemble that includes strings, harp, flute, and vibraphone. The music shifts between minimal piano movements and larger orchestral arrangements, with Myra’s alto saxophone often integrated into the ensemble's texture rather than acting as a solo lead. This collaborative method allows for a focus on melody and a hopeful, "autumnal" energy that explores themes of beauty and growth.
