Gwilym Bowen Rhys has firmly established himself as an ambassador for Welsh-language song. In 2019 he was nominated for the Folk Singer of the Year Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and won Best Solo Artist Award at the Welsh Folk Awards. He has represented Wales in performances at the British Embassy in Paris, the National Eisteddfod, and with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Hailing from the village of Bethel at the foot of Yr Wyddfa in North West Wales, Gwilym has sung in his native language since childhood. His music combines old melodies and lyrics, intricate guitar arrangements, and a rich powerful voice that effortlessly swings from velveteen sweetness to earthy grit.
2025 saw the release of his fifth studio album, Aden, which he is now touring alongside fellow acclaimed Welsh musicians, harpist Gwen Màiri and fiddler Patrick Rimes.
