The Gil Scott-Heron Songbook are the dynamic duo of Aki Remally and Fraser Urquhart who play with a full quartet to pay homage to Gil Scott-Heron.
Together they delve deep into the work of the revolutionary poet, jazz musician and rap pioneer, Gil Scott-Heron, whose lyrics expressed views on politics, culture and social injustice – expect a whole lotta of funk, jazz and soul tunes.
As a multi-instrumentalist, Aki began playing from a very young age and chose the guitar as his primary medium of musical expression… or rather, it kind of chose him. Although he turns his hand to the keys, bass and percussion from time to time. Spanning multiple projects, Aki has made a name for himself in the Jazz and Funk scenes playing sold-out shows and festivals in the UK and Europe for the last 20 years.
Fraser Urquhart is one of the most in-demand young jazz musicians on the scene which has seen him perform alongside a long-list of legends as well as features on the BBC’s Jazz Nights at the Quay, and a great many major festival slots.

“The musicality of this band is undeniable and their relationship with each other allows for a relaxed and comforting evening. Even for someone who had never heard any Gil Scott-Heron before doesn’t need to, because the songs are funky and accessible for all.” – BROADWAY BABY ★★★★
