We are delighted to welcome Ruth Steinberg to Left Bank - with a weave of Jewish stories to tell.
Through music, song, poetry, clowning and everything in-between - Steinberg promises to show us the world we thought we knew from new angles using the art of story-telling.
From the humour of wise fool stories from Chelm* - jokes and myths - the closely observed details of her own personal story of a post-war childhood in the North East - to her marriage to Len, a man born in Poland in 1937 - Steinberg takes us on an intriguing journey of intertwined stories.
'Steinberg's intimate narration will touch your heart and make you believe that your own actions, if brave, can facilitate love for future generations'.
*Wise Fool stories from Chelm are classic Eastern European Jewish folktales about a mythical Polish town populated by well-meaning but illogical, naive, and absurdly foolish residents. Often called the "Wise Men of Chelm," they are ironical figures who use flawed, circular logic to "solve" simple problems, turning logical thinking into comedic, absurd, and often paradoxical situations.
