Join us for the film screening of Salaam Bombay (Mira Nair, 1988), with an introduction by Dr Priyanka Singh, Lecturer in Film Studies at the University of Leeds. Mira Nair’s extraordinary debut plunges us into the teeming streets of Bombay through the eyes of ten-year-old Krishna.
Dr Priyanka Singh specialises in Indian Cinema and emerging cinemas from South Asia and the Middle East. She is primarily interested in exploring transdisciplinary and multicultural topics in both my teaching and research. Also of interest to her are the connections between contemporary cinematic themes and alternative discourses, particularly as seen through the lenses of postcolonialism, feminism, psychonalysis and subalternity.
In collaboration with the Leeds International Film Festival.
