Drypoint etching is a printing process where lines or marks are scratched or inscribed into a surface which is then printed from. It is usually by the intaglio method, where the incisions are filled with ink and printed from, rather than the relief method which prints from the surface.
On this taster session you will make a series of prints using the drypoint technique. You will learn how to use drypoint etching tools on plastic and aluminium sheets, oil based inks and our two etching printing presses in the workshop. At the end of the session you will have a series of similar, but increasingly more complex, prints.

Leeds Print Workshop currently offers half price concession tickets for those on certain income-based state benefits, which are subsidised by funding from Leeds City Council. To be eligible you must be in receipt of state benefits and be able to provide evidence. See their website for further information.
Access
Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and accessible toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one blue badge car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street, subject to availability.
Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
