Discovering the Warriors: the stories behind the yoga poses

Discover the dramatic story of Virabhadra, the fiercest of warriors who is said to have inspired Virabhadrasana, the warrior poses.

These are arguably among the most visited poses in a standing practice, but rarely do we have the time to uncover their meaning and the lessons we can learn through practicing them.

In this workshop, we’ll spend time learning the story of Siva, Sati and Virabhadra, and how they inspire Virabhadrasana 1, 2 and 3.

Focusing on the lessons we can learn through these poses, we’ll move through a Hatha Yoga sequence, including asana and pranayama, before a guided meditation to uncover our inner warrior.

Expect to leave with a new found knowledge of Yoga mythology, bringing you an understanding of the deeper significance of the poses.

The workshop is open level but will involve getting up and down from the ground. Some of the pranayama will not be suitable for pregnant people but can be worked around or adapted to suit.

Perfect for:
- anyone wanting to deepen their yoga knowledge and connect on a deeper level to the philosophy behind yoga

About Iain:
“I found Yoga when I started attending lunchtime sessions away from a busy 9-5, during a time when I was struggling with what I now know to be chronic stress and anxiety. I didn’t know what magic was at play, all I knew was that Yoga made my brain be quiet even if just for 45 minutes. Since then, Yoga has been a pivotal tool in dealing with my anxiety and I consider it a genuine privilege to be able to share it with others now as a teacher.

In my classes, you’ll find philosophy weaved in with a solid grounding in anatomy, plus all the cheerleading you may need. Above all else I encourage everyone to move in a way that quite simply feels good to them at that moment. Whether it’s a fiery flow or a grounding Yin practice, my job is to help people feel at home on the mat. To explore, be curious, connect to themselves and find a sense of pride – all the while knowing I’m there to support as much or as little as needed.

I’m a self-confessed yoga nerd and I truly believe this powerful practice has the capacity to change lives.“
