This FREE workshop aims to teach participants how to repurpose damaged or unusable garments and textiles by creating new fabrics and strategically placing patterns with Leeds Beckett University’s Fashion Design team.

The goal is to reduce waste while allowing participants to craft a personalised, high-quality garment.

Fabric Creation: Instruction on specific seams and processes to transform unwearable or unwanted garments into new, usable fabrics.
Pattern Placement: Guidance on how to effectively use and place patterns to maximise the materials available and create a new garment.
Sustainable Design Principles: Emphasis on creativity and innovation in reusing textiles, focusing on sustainable design practices.

Workshop Team:
The workshop will be delivered by Harriet Wadsworth; Senior Lecturer at Leeds Beckett University, alongside Leeds Beckett Fashion Design students.

Format:
This hands-on, interactive workshop will provide detailed instruction and support, guiding participants through the process of creating a garment from reclaimed materials. With a focus on sustainability, participants will gain practical skills and insights into innovative pattern cutting and fashion design.

This workshop is free, you can drop in from 11am and we finish at 3pm. Adults only, any skills welcome.

Sustainable Fashion Week (SFW) 2024 is now in its fourth year, bringing together the community across the UK – and beyond – in an explosion of creative activity to help change fashion habits. The programme is community-led – with a wide variety of events and activities that will share knowledge and skills at a grassroots level. The theme for 2024 is ‘The Power of Repair’. We’ll be celebrating the importance of repairing our clothing to keep it alive and out of landfill.
