Be part of a powerful and historic moment at the Caribbean RAF Memorial Garden Launch and Plaque Unveiling, taking place at Jamaica House in Chapeltown, Leeds.
This meaningful evening will honour the lives, service and legacy of Caribbean RAF servicemen who served during World War II and later settled in Leeds, helping to shape the city’s cultural and community landscape.
The event will bring together families, residents and the wider public for an engaging and reflective programme including welcome remarks, family tributes, readings, and a moving roll call to honour those remembered. A key highlight of the evening will be the official unveiling of the memorial plaque within a newly created garden space. It will be a permanent tribute to these remarkable men.
Guests will also experience a specially curated mini-exhibition of For King, Country & Home, which shares the stories of Caribbean servicemen and their contributions. This exhibition was first staged in 2023 as part of the Jamaica Society Leeds Out of Many Festival, made possible thanks to National Lottery players via the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England, and supported by Leeds Civic Trust, Leeds Community Foundation and Leeds Libraries.
The evening will conclude with light refreshments and an opportunity to connect, reflect and celebrate within the memorial garden.
This event is not only a commemoration but a moment of collective recognition — ensuring that the contributions of Caribbean RAF servicemen are remembered, honoured and shared with future generations.
The Caribbean RAF Memorial Garden Launch is proudly supported by Wades Charity and Unity Homes & Enterprise.
