Join textile designer and printmaker Aidan Liggins for a full-day block printing workshop inspired by the colours, textures and forms found in nature.
Set between the studio and the gardens at Northlight Arts Centre, this immersive workshop combines drawing, design and traditional block printing techniques to create unique hand-printed fabric.
The day begins outdoors, where Aidan will guide participants through a series of simple observational drawing exercises inspired by plants, textures and natural forms. These sessions are not about artistic skill or producing finished drawings. Instead, they encourage participants to slow down, look more closely and gather visual ideas from the world around them.
Back in the studio, these observations will be developed into original designs which will then be carved into lino printing blocks. Participants will learn how to translate drawings into effective print designs before printing onto fabric using traditional block printing methods.
Throughout the workshop, Aidan will share practical guidance on design, composition, carving and printing, making the day suitable for complete beginners as well as those looking to develop existing printmaking skills.
By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with your own hand-printed fabric, a carved printing block to continue working with at home, and a fresh appreciation for the beauty and detail of the everyday natural world.
