Urban Sketchers is a global movement of people who love to sketch on location. There are Urban Sketchers Chapters in almost every country including the UK, which has over 25 regional chapters.

Our mission is to raise the artistic, storytelling and educational value of on-location drawing, promoting its practice and connecting people around the world who draw on location where they live, work and travel. We support each other, draw together, share our sketches and ‘show our world, one drawing at a time’. Anyone can participate whether beginner or more experienced. It’s about encouraging people to sketch. It’s not about making perfect drawings. Sketching is fun!

Urban Sketchers Yorkshire, the local chapter, holds regular meet-ups, which we call ‘sketchcrawls’ where we draw together at various locations around the county. Sketching as a group is a great way to practice and expand your art skills, get feedback and encouragement and socialise with other artists. It can also make sketching outdoors less scary for those who are new to the practice.

The group welcomes people of all abilities and each ‘sketchcrawl’ is free to attend. These ‘sketchcrawls’ take place at least once a month and are announced on our Facebook page

From Friday 9th September we will be hosting the Urban Sketchers UK Annual Event with artists from various Urban Sketchers chapters across the UK coming to sketch on location in the city, learn from each other and share ideas. The event is already sold out. This will be the fourth Annual Event, the previous events having taken place in Birmingham, Southampton and Stoke.

The Urban Sketchers UK Annual Event Leeds will take place over three days from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th September and is based on ‘sketchcrawls’at various locations in the city. On Friday the first location will be around the University Campus; Saturday morning will be around Leeds Dock; Saturday afternoon, Corn Exchange and Kirkgate Market and Sunday will be the Civic Quarter.
