Join us this August for the Summer of Play at Sunny Bank Mills - a series of workshops, clubs, events, exhibitions and more.

This August, we're running a 4-day summer school aimed at young people aged 6-11 years of age from the 8th - 11th August. This Summer School is perfect for children who love making and creating. Each day we will be doing a different mix of creative, engaging, and playful arts and crafts - including textile collage, ceramic sculpting, drawing, creative writing, and more! There will also be some movement and dance activities.

Every day will have a different mix of activities inspired by the works in the Gallery exhibition ‘Definitions of Drawing II’, and led by a mix of experienced freelance practitioners and our Gallery team. Each day the children will respond creatively to a piece of work by a particular artist in the exhibition.

We would like to end the summer school with an exhibition of the work made during the programme which will be displayed in the 1912. Family, friends, and the public will be invited to view the work and engage in creative activities themselves- continuing the creative fun. Sunny Bank Mills Gallery champions the work of emerging and early career artists- in working with young people we
can inspire the next generation and continue this legacy.

We then open up the first floor of the 1912 for Playroom from 15th - 18th August. Playroom is an interactive space in the first floor of our atmospheric 1912 Mill. We invite you to come create, explore and discover life at the mill. We have chosen activities which we hope will inspire all the generations!

Overtime Art Club - BYOB and relax in the Gallery for a couple of hours for some art club sessions. We're staying late at the Mills this summer to bring you the Overtime Art Club sessions. Come along for relaxed evenings of drawing, printing, zine making and more - all facilitated by young local artists and the Gallery Team.

You're welcome to bring your own beer and art supplies to the session, but we'll provide all the materials you'll need. Sessions run for 6 weeks and start on 10th August, from 6pm - 8pm.
