Support After Rape & Sexual Violence Leeds, SARSVL, the Rape Crisis Centre for Leeds, is running a photo competition, launched on International Women's Day, called Powerful and Peaceful Places

Entrants are invited to submit a photograph of a place that makes them feel powerful and/or at peace, as well as a few sentences (up to 50 words) about their photo. Images and words will be selected to create a Powerful and Peaceful Places calendar to be sold to raise funds for SARSVL during their Winter Giving Campaign later in the year.

Sonia Kumari from SARSVL says, "We're looking for photos of a place that has made you feel powerful or peaceful. You don't have to be a professional photographer to enter, far from it, we want to hear from all women, girls and nonbinary people about what and where makes them feel at peace or positively powerful.

As well as creating a fundraising calendar we will also use images and words that are submitted to our competition as part of our online campaigning during the 16 Days of Action which starts on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls on 25 November."

The competition is open to women, girls and nonbinary people who are aged 13 or over.

You can see all the T&Cs on the SARSVL website here which also links the entry form, young person's consent form and more information about how to submit your entry.

The deadline to submit is Sunday 26th April at midnight.

SARSVL is a feminist organisation that supports all women and girls in Leeds who have been affected by sexual violence of any kind at any time in their lives.  Nearly half the women they speak to are adult survivors of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA). Services include a free telephone helpline, free counselling and free advocacy support. If anyone would like to donate to or fundraise for SARSVL please find out more here. SARSVL also promotes the needs and rights of survivors, and works towards the elimination of sexual violence through campaigning and partnership working.

As one survivor said... “You’re all amazing, you never judge me, you listen and you give me time and space and that’s all I need… thank you for picking up the phone today.”

Happy snapping!
