Perhaps not yet, but a community of playful spirits is organising the first city-wide DIY Festival of Play and Creativity for this Autumn Half-Term. Leeds is already known for its playful pioneers, and this year, we're planning a feast of fun to brighten the winter months. Our organising crew includes library workers, community members, council workers, artists, and residents — all dedicated to making play a priority. We've hosted three community meet-ups — drawing over 100 local participants from various backgrounds — including individuals and business owners. Our vision is to inspire playfulness across our neighbourhoods and the entire city of Leeds.

Expect a variety of events and activities to appear on the dedicated Festival of Play page on Leeds Inspired. Look out for free or low-cost workshops and happenings across Leeds, with daily profiles on our social media starting in September. Make sure to visit the Playful Information Kiosk outside Leeds Art Gallery and Leeds Central Library during Half-Term for FREE fun and ideas to spark winter joy. Keep your eye out for the launch of the Playful Ambassadors programme.

Get involved!

Whether you're a bubble blower, chalk artist, magician, or any other play enthusiast, we want to hear from you… Do you run a venue or café which can host fun activities? How about organising a Play Street in your neighbourhood? — it’s easy to do and you have time to apply before September. Ask your school or business to pledge an hour of playfulness during October and share their #PledgetoPlay.

Support our crowdfunder to help seed local play projects — every neighbourhood deserves a touch of playfulness! Join us in making Leeds a playful, fun-filled city. We're eager to connect, showcase existing strengths, and grow something special together.
