Leeds Jazz Festival 2023 - Look Out For Some Highlights
Leeds Jazz Festival will be returning to the city from Thursday 25th - Tuesday 30th May 2023, and with plenty of free and ticketed events to discover over the Late May Bank Holiday weekend there's something for everyone.
The Welcome to Leeds Stage is a family friendly, open air, free stage on Cookridge Street. Situated between The Light and Henry Moore Institute, the stage has its own seating area, and will have live performances and DJs from Friday 26th - Monday 29th May, curated by Sable, DJ Lubi, Launchpad and JazzLeeds to bring you the best in local talent.
Food and drink will be on hand throughout the weekend, supplied by Radisson Blu and Browns. The stage is completely free to attend so come settle into a deck chair and catch some rays!
Lara Jones Ensō+ is an immersive, cinematic audio visual experience based on field recordings of train journeys and monochrome visuals filmed across train stations in the UK. Based in Leeds Train Station from Friday 26th - Sunday 29th May 2023 and free to experience, audiences are invited to step inside the dome for a duration of their choice; to take a moment of pause, reflection and stillness amongst the chaos of the station.
On Monday 29th May DJ NikNak will be running Free DJ workshops for beginners through to advanced DJs, in two workshops at Canned Heat in Chapeltown. There are 10 spaces per workshop, for women, non-binary, trans and gender expansive people aged 18+, with free signups open now. In the evening, Canned Heat will swing open their doors for a bank holiday Monday party with DJs and the finest Craft Beer selections on offer.
All of this is alongside a range of free and ticketed gigs celebrating music across the jazz sphere - From saxophonist Matt Anderson's Quartet performing music from their new album 'The Town And The City' at HEART, PYJÆN's deep, multidimensional well of what is broadly called jazz at Brudenell Social Club, Jazz FMs 'Soul Act Of The Year' Mica Millar at The Wardrobe, to the heavy-jazz meets post punk sound of Vipertime at Hyde Park Book Club.
