Henry Moore Institute Reopens
The wait is nearly over, our refurbishment is almost complete and we can’t wait to welcome you back to the Institute from 12 July 2024.
We've been closed since November 2023 for the first significant refurbishment in our thirty-year history. Working with Leeds-based Group Ginger architects, the renovations have focused on creating more welcoming spaces for visitors, with enhanced events, creativity and meeting rooms.
We are excited to be reopening our new multifunctional learning and engagement facilities where we will host creative workshops, discussions and events. We have also created a meeting point in the entrance so you can now take a seat and browse the enhanced shop.
Sustainability is at the heart of the project and we are delighted to have repurposed and reused materials and furniture, as well as installing solar panels on our new roof.
This film tells you more about the work we’ve done and gives a glimpse behind the scenes of what to expect:
What’s on over the summer...
We’re reopening with a solo exhibition by Hany Armanious, one of Australia’s leading sculptors, along with a collection display Sculpting Royalty: Hew Locke and Mary Thornycroft.
There’s always a creative activity you can get involved with in our alcove area, and watch out for family workshops taking place in our new engagement space over the summer holidays.
Plus don’t forget the Research Library on the first floor, rooms full of inspiration, with over 30,000 publications for all to explore. When we reopen there’ll be a display in the library showcasing our collections exploring the monuments in Westminster Abbey.
The bridge linking us with Leeds Art Gallery is also reopening for the first time since 2020.
As always, entry to the Institute is free and we will be open Tuesday – Saturday 10am-5pm.
We’re looking forward to seeing you very soon.
