Gledhow Valley Road will be closed for most of its 1.5 Km length for a Green Fair, a unique opportunity for the local community to come together to enjoy Gledhow Valley Woods without the noise and pollution associated with a busy road. Sunday 14 July, 11am - 4pm.

Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods, CA Spaces and other local community partners will be celebrating sustainability, environmental awareness, and community engagement at this family friendly event, and as part of the festivities, Gledhow Valley Road will be closed to traffic to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

Martin Calvert, Chair of Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods “We are absolutely delighted to be organising this event for everyone to enjoy, I can’t wait to experience the woods free from traffic noise – it will be quite something”.

There will be the chance to browse a diverse range of stalls offering eco-friendly activities, homemade and locally grown products. Discover sustainable alternatives and support local organisations. A range of children's activities include nature trails, craft stations, and storytelling sessions designed to educate and inspire young environmentalists.

Interactive activities on topics such as composting, upcycling, and renewable energy will also be a feature of the day, helping people learn practical tips for living a more sustainable lifestyle from experts in the field.

The festive atmosphere will be enhanced by live performances from local musicians and entertainers throughout the day.

Other activities planned for the day include bike rides, free bike repairs, a urban flower and produce show, a kids treasure hunt, nature walks, street games, a pop-up café, community stalls, the opening of Gipton Spa, Bath House and Beck Pasture wildflower meadow, a chance to try out an E-Bike, community choir, musicians, steel pans, performances by Balbir Singh Dance Company, information on potential future plans for the Gledhow valley, an opportunity to have your say and celebrate our achievements to date. 

There will be food options from local vendors, including sustainable and vegan food or bring your picnic us for a day of fun, nature, and community spirit at the Green Fair in Gledhow Valley Woods. Invite your family, friends and neighbours to enjoy the various activities celebrating the tranquillity of the woods car free. 

Attendees are encouraged to walk, cycle, or use public transport to reach the event.

The Green Fair is being planned by a partnership group of long-established community groups, including the Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods, CA Spaces, CANplan, Gledhow Valley Conservation Area Group, Balbir Singh Dance Company and Roundhay Environmental Action Project.  The day is funded by Climate Action Leeds, a five-year programme funded by The National Lottery Climate Action Fund to help shape a Leeds which is zero carbon, nature friendly and socially just by the 2030s.  

Road Closure Information: To ensure the safety and comfort of all attendees, Gledhow Valley Road will be closed to traffic from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on the day of the event. Detour routes will be clearly marked, and volunteers will be available to assist with directions. Attendees are encouraged to walk, cycle, or use public transport to reach the event.

Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods is a charity dedicated to the conservation, protection and enhancement of the natural environment of these ancient woodlands and its species. Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods welcomes volunteers to help with various aspects of the event, from setting up stalls to guiding attendees.
