Would you like to volunteer as part of a big art event in the city involving dancing through the streets of Leeds?

'Dance (All Night, Leeds)' on Saturday 13 April, will be a dance performance work by the artist Melanie Manchot. Inviting mass public participation, we will re-trace the routes taken by feminist protesters involved in the very first Reclaim the Night march in Leeds in 1977. The ’77 Leeds march kick-started a global Reclaim the Night movement, with people in cities across the world gathering after dark to march against sexual violence and for gender equality. 'Dance (All Night, Leeds)' will be an empowering statement about taking up space after dark in the city.

On 13 April for an entire night, a variety of movements, cultures and dance styles will come together. Dancing through the streets of Leeds, the groups will finally converge in Victoria Gardens on the Headrow around 8pm in front of Leeds Art Gallery. After a performance of the dance groups together, Victoria Gardens will be transformed into a social space with dance lessons offered over the course of the night by several dance organisations. These lessons will range from Bulgarian folk, to Indian classical dance and hula hooping. Audiences will be invited to join in with the dancing, wearing silent disco style headphones.
